Our Story

How does a Snack Yum become a Snack Yum, you ask? Well, hold onto your oven mitts because we're taking a ride all the way back to 2009. The munchie madness kicked off in my childhood kitchen. You see, baking was my jam, my professional background was in the food and beverage industry, and I just so happened to be academically trained to make darn good sugary things. Together with my mom, who not only gave me life but also a love of baking, we embarked on a quest to create the yummiest cookie ever. Why? Well, why not!

Fueled by a never-ending sugar high, we whipped up more trial-and-error batches than you could shake a rolling pin at – over 60, if we're being precise. Finally, we stumbled upon mouthwatering perfection, and I thought to myself, “Well, this cookie sure does make the taste buds do the hokey-pokey.” So I shared them with friends and family who kept raving that the cookies "baked the world a better place." I didn't know it then, but this would become the signature.

Over the next 730-ish days (that's two years in cookie time), I lived a double life as a Sales Manager for an artisan bread bakery during the day and a bootstrapping one-man cookie ninja at night, utilizing the bakery equipment to make and package cookies. I then delivered to a handful of local coffee shops in the wee morning hours. After not getting much sleep for a while there, I had another thought: "I gotta make this my full-time gig because I dough-not want to do anything else!"

With the motto “Life is what you bake it,” I waved adieu to my responsible adult job, moved back in with my supportive parents (though they did question if I was a smart cookie or just throwing my dough away) and sold my car to buy a delivery van that sort of resembled an old-fashioned milk truck. 

Over a decade later, The Cookie Department® has evolved into Snack Yums™; because why settle for just one cookie when you can eat a bunch at the same time.
